LA Marler at Rancho Mirage Writers FestivalOriginal art from the TypOwriter art series by Louise Anne Marler is on display at the Rancho Mirage Public Library just in time for the Rancho Mirage Writers Festival, which took place January 28-29 at the Library.

“My typewriter art is perfect for a Writers Festival… And David Bryant, the fearless leader of the Rancho Mirage Public Library recognizes that,” said Louise Anne Marler, American Contemporary photographer and artist, at LA Marler Studio & Gallery in Santa Monica, CA.

The Rancho Mirage Writers Festival is a “world class gathering of writers, thinkers, and people contributing to the intellectual vitality of our time,” say festival organizers. The recently completed 2017 event featured five stages and hundreds of diverse speakers, attractions and exhibits, including the library lobby exhibit of Marler’s vintage typewriter art.

Speakers this year included Wall Street Journal columnist Bret Stephens, author of “America in Retreat,” and humorist Dave BarryJamie Kabler called the Ranch Mirage Writers Festival, which he co-founded, “Coachella for the Brain.”

The exhibit fills two cases in the library’s main lobby and includes antique typewriters from Marler’s own collection, a typewriter recently gifted to Louise from the collection of Tom Hanks, as well as LA Marler’s original typewriter art that is an inspirational art for writers of all types. Marler has long seen a deep connection between her work and writers. “We were Marler Office Machines from St. Louis, MO, and we have been collecting manual typewriters as trade-ins for three generations.” Marler recently added the Marler Family Typewriter Business story, a 1952 green Royal typewriter and her artwork to the Smithsonian, Museum of American History.

TypOwriters is LA Marler’s iconic photographic vocabulary, a blend of original photographs, graphic design and illustrations. Marler was thrilled to exhibit items from her typewriter collection and pieces of her TypOWriter art in connection with this prestigious festival. “They are loved by many people, especially those with a connection to writing…these vintage machines are iconic symbols of communication, letters, books, stories and life,” said Marler.

Marler also has two pieces in the permanent collection on display at the Library, including the large format, small edition fine prints of “Please Write” and “Word.”

In addition to original art Marler also creates Type-In events for the general public and typewriter enthusiasts. “It’s a fun activity to learn the keyboard, the history of personal printing, communications and the English Language,” says Marler. The Joshua Tree Type Inn, also founded by LA Marler, is a writers retreat available for rent in the beautiful Joshua Tree National Park.
